Call of Duty 1, which was released in 2003, is the original game of the famous series, set during World War II. Unlike its solo hero predecessors, it is heavily focused on atmosphere and authenticity, as well as team-based fighting. The game is played as a Soviet, British, and American soldier and each has a different perspective of the war.
In the bigger, more hectic battles of the campaign, coordination and teamwork is essential. Players are not playing alone against the computer, but with computer controlled teams in battle, giving everything a much bigger and more intense scale. The missions take place in towns that have been destroyed, defensive missions capture strategic positions and attacks on enemy bunkers are all brought to life with immersion sound effects and historically inspired weapons.
